Parents Who Speak English: Alberto Herranz

Alberto’s testimonial about his PWSE experience:
‘An extremely positive experience that was both challenging and rewarding. I was exquisitely well looked after by the School team, felt very well supported with the preparation and advice for the event and emotionally supported as well. I enjoyed giving the presentation and It was a real pleasure singing to you all’

MUSIC IN MY LIFE

Alberto Herranz: “I have been interested in singing since I was very young. My father was a great music lover: he liked to sing and played the guitar and the lute, so there was music constantly playing in our home. When I was 8 years old, I had a very old music teacher who taught songs to all the children in my school. I once publically performed one of these songs, much to the surprise of my family, in a hotel in Asturias where I was on holiday with my parents and grandparents after the end of the school year. It was a big success! I also sang as part of a church choir, where I was given the opportunity to perform some solos, and in a school play when I was around 10 or 11 years old. As an adolescent, I learned to play the guitar and, along with some friends, formed a rock group, which was great training for my musical career. However soon after I began my military service and stopped playing.

It wasn’t until the end of the military service that I became interested in lyrical singing and began private studies with a professor from the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid – the same professor who taught my father. At the same time I began to work, and at the age of 21 I was financially independent from my parents. Soon after, I joined the Escuela Superior de Canto after passing the entrance exams in singing and music theory.

I found myself living in my own house, working and studying. The singing degree consisted of 7 courses, which took me 10 years to complete due to a lack of time. I was awarded the highest possible level in solo singing. After finishing my studies I performed my first concerts as a professional, which became more and more frequent as time went on. I had to arrange these concerts around my day job until recently when I decided to dedicate my time exclusively to singing.”

1. NEW YORK, NEW YORK

VERY TOUCHING!!
