We have introduced a new section to our School called ‘Parents who Speak English’ a platform allowing direct collaboration between the School and those who wish to contribute by giving short presentations about their professional careers to the groups that your children belong to explaining ‘Why Speaking Good English is Important for your Career’.
Carla Sacramento, the great Portuguese athlete who won a gold medal in the 1500 metres at the athletics World Championships in Athens in 1997, started this series of career presentations last Thursday 11 of December.
Carla presented her expansive sporting career in an interesting PowerPoint full of pictures and showed the video of the race in which she became world champion. Her presentation was adapted for the level of the groups preparing for PET (B1) and FCE (B2) Cambridge exams.
The students from these groups, and a selection of parents, made up the audience which had the opportunity to participate at the end of the presentation by asking questions and taking part in an open discussion aided by the teachers.
It was a fantastic opportunity to meet an exceptional athlete face-to-face and a wonderful chance to practise English ‘in a different way’!
THANK YOU CARLA SACRAMENTO!
We are extremely happy to launch and coordinate this joint educational project between the families and the School. We already have some exciting collaborations that we will be informing you of throughout the academic year. Those who are interested can leave their details at reception and they will be given dates for their presentations and for personal coaching prior to their performances. Go for it!
